Review of Bosco's character in his different serials: In Love with Bosco Wong
How fans fell in love with Bosco~ <Wars of In Laws> TVB 2005/07/18 released
Main Cast: Lisa Wong, Myolie Wu, Bosco Wong, Shek Sau
Bosco Wong as Ning Mau Chun and But Lau MingI have already watched quite a lot of TVB serials last year, but the one that left the deepest impression is still Wars of In Laws. Actually there was no intention of watching this serial in the beginning as there were none of my favourite artists in this serial. As for Myolie, my liking for her was just neutral at that point of time. However, after knowing that this serial has won so many awards in TVB 38th Anniversary, thus I decided to kill time by taking a look at this serial. From then onwards, I started to like Bosco.

My first impression - this guy has many rich expressions and is very good in acting comedy serials. Just by looking at Ning Mau Chun wink and flicker his eyebrows and eyes, it could already make all laugh hilariously.
My second impression - But Lau Ming's mysterious eyes and side view. I loved especially to watch But Lau Ming with the mask with his very cool expression. I suppose up till now it is the kind of hero that can captivate the girls' heart!
My third impression - Ning Mau Chun and But Lau Ming is a perfect match. In one serial just to act as two different characters is already a difficult task, not to say these two characters are totally opposite in nature. Until the scene where But Lau Ming confessed to Shap Yat about his true identity, Bosco then merged the opposite natures of these two characters into one person perfectly and naturally. When I did not get to see But Lau Ming act coquettishly and the masculine Ning Mau Chun at that moment, I was totally defeated by Bosco!
The relationship of Bosco and Myolie - Needless to say, these two had the best chemistry so far. Similar with majority of the fans, they have been my favourite on-screen couple up till now!
The success of Wars of In Laws depended much on Lisa and Myolie's excellent performance, but we also cannot neglect Bosco's appearance, I believe many of Bosco's fans who have watched this serial will start to have a very good impression of him here. What I would like to mention is also because of WOIL, Bosco's career start to pick up, having awarded The Most Improved Male Star of The Year.
<Wong Fei Hung - Master of Kung> Fu TVB 2005/01/10 released
Main Cast: Bosco Wong, John Chiang, Rain Lee, Sammul Chan, Kenneth Ma
Bosco Wong as Wong Fei HungAfter watching WOIL, I had the urge to watch Bosco's past serial, thus I found Wong Fei Hung. Although I don't like the female lead Rain Lee, because of Bosco I still bought this serial. This is one of the few serials that Bosco acted as lead amongst all his other performances. (I believe Bosco will definitely have much more chances acting as lead in future!)

To speak the truth, this serial is not Bosco's best performance. First, the story of Wong Fei Hung has already been acted so many times before. Second, again it's a story in Qing Dynasty. Ning Mau Chun and But Lau Ming has already left a very deep impression in me that cannot be erased, thus compared to a serious Wong Fei Hung, together with his indecisive attitude in handling relationships, probably I could only remember his martial arts which surpassed the rest. But no matter what, this is still Bosco's serial as lead, plus there are two S4 members also acting in this show, needless to say the chemistry between them is naturally good.
Last but not least, I have to praise Bosco's appearance in Qing costumes. If you want to see a cultured Bosco who can write and fight well, please refer to the following <Find The Light>.
<Find The Light> TVB 2003/09/08 released
Main Cast: Ron Ng, Damian Lau, Tavia Yueng, Bosco Wong, Shirley Yeung
Bosco Wong as Tham Ci TongActually this serial was before WOIL, at that time I wanted to see Tavia’s performance, thus I bought this show. After watching, what made me most impressed was actually the spectacled and cultured Tham Ci Tong instead.

Actually, initially the Tham Ci Tong that was first infatuated with the Princess did not catch my attention. However, it was until in the later part of the serial, I was deeply touched when it featured Tham Ci Tong and Run Yi's relationship. Wong Wu was impulsive, rash and impetuous while Tham Ci Tong was cool, sensible and cautious and in times of urgency he always comes into the picture to lend a helping hand for the sake of the citizens in the country, he goes to the extent of sacrificing himself for them. At our age, I suppose we would even admire more for this kind of person.
After seeing Ning Mau Chun's cute and amiable character, Bat Lau Ming and Wong Fei Hung's heroic deeds, and now finished with Tham Ci Tong, one will naturally have a special feeling for Bosco. What is unforgettable is the studious Tham Ci Tong, the persevering Tham Ci Tong who desired badly to ban opium and lastly the sacrificing Tham Ci Tong who puts the citizens above everything else. Bosco perfectly moulded this legendary renowned Qing Dynasty good/ideal guy.
Also purely from the point of a TVB fan, FTL this serial created another favourite on-screen couple - BOTA match. When watching Tham Ci Tong and Run Yi's MV — “我们或许带着未开化的愚昧,但却不缺少睿智,我们或许轻率,却不乏清醒,我们或许轻信,但绝不怕牺牲…” at the point when Ci Tong walked over to Run Yi and embraced her into his arms, I can't stop myself from getting moved by his actions.
<Life Made Simple> TVB 2005/10/24 released
Main Cast: Roger Kwok, Jessica Suen, Leila Tong, Bosco Wong
Bosco Wong as Michael ChungBefore watching this serial, I hesitated for a moment as I had already watched Square Pegs before. I disliked Roger acting as a fool, someone who is low intellectually and disliked Jessica who is so pretty but having to marry a fool. However finally because of Bosco, I struggled with this decision and decided to watch the serial and the truth has proven itself, I have definitely made the right choice!

I was stunned by Bosco's first appearance!
Too used to seeing him in ancient appearance, suddenly now I see this switch to a modern outlook. Moreover, he acted as a talented and wealthy youth, so I can totally understand why the crowd of girls screamed hysterically when he appeared whilst driving the yacht to the party.
The relationship of Michael and Catherine - Bosco and Jessica's pairing made me realise more of Bosco's acting talents. He could practically pair up with almost any female artists, regardless of their age gap. Moreover, all his actions, even his expressions perfectly moulded the smart image of Michael.
However, if Bosco as Michael in the entire serial is flawless - so smart, gentlemanly and successful, then this character will not be considered a classic. It is because of the appearance of his foolish brother, his failure in career, his departure of his girlfriend and the struggles upon his setbacks that in turn created more performance opportunities for Bosco in acting out this character, Michael.
In year 2005, Bosco had the most performances. Though he had acted in many characters, but if he did not act as Michael perhaps it would not make me idolise him even more! Furthermore, I have to compliment on Leila's performance in this serial with Bosco's perfect pairing! BL is definitely another classic! Recommended all fans to see BL MV <Don’t Blame Her>, created by Ah Kang.
From then onwards, I totally became a total Bosco fan, watching all Bosco's works.
<Aqua Heroes> TVB 2003/07/28 released
Main Cast: Edwin Siu, Bobo Chan, Bosco Wong, Leila Tong
Bosco Wong as Louis Chui
Actually this show in my point of view, has only two selling points. One is Bosco's performance, second is BL pairing! However, Bosco's parts are not a lot. What left me the deepest impression is the first episode where Bosco fully utilised his humorous acting skills, making me unable to stop laughing. And the part that made me look forward to is BL pairing, unfortunately it only appeared in the last episode. But watching the last episode still makes me feel sweet, till now I could vividly remember Leila writing www.love.com on the beach.
One more word to go, Bosco has much affinity with water, from this serial starting with swimming till at the later serials, he always has scenes related to water, i.e. raining, falling into the water, swimming, competing with breath holding in the pool. You can take a look at it.
<The Triumph In The Sky> TVB 2003/10/27 released
Main Cast: Francis Ng, Flora Chan, Myolie Wu, Ron Ng
Bosco Wong as Chris Tse
I have watched this serial long before, but I have not noticed Bosco. So after liking Bosco, I purposely searched back and re-watched this serial. This serial is meant to promote Ron and Sammul, so Bosco's scenes are pathetically few, but there are still some recommended ones.
The most commendable parts:
- when his father was sacked by Sammul's father
- because he did not want his mother to slog, he deliberately made trouble by dirtying the toilet.
- because he wanted to help Sammul by telling a white lie, he willingly accepted the exclusion from his other good friends.
These few scenes tested his emotional acting skills, especially when Francis mistook Bosco for being afraid of losing his face that resulted him to prevent his mother from cleaning the toilet, Bosco's facial and eye expression both showed the feelings of being wronged yet unable to speak out the difficulties he faced.
Another small info, aside from the topic, we all know that Bosco and Ron are good friends. Though in this serial, Bosco acts as Sammul's good friend, but when there are scenes of S4, Bosco and Ron will tend to stand slightly closer to each other, and both showed a better chemistry together. Probably, this is just my imagination, but overall after watching I felt warm at heart.
<The Last Breakthrough> TVB 2004/11/15 released
Main Cast: Nick Cheung, Andrew Lin, Raymond Lam, Leila Tong, Sonijia Kwok
Bosco Wong as Tung Chi Sum
Bosco has too few parts in this serial... The character image is not clearly defined, considered only a very small supporting role. However, I loved his kind-hearted character, always thinking for others before himself and his humorous scenes. One of my favourite hilarious scenes is when Bosco was telling Leila that Raymond fell for her.
As mentioned at the end, the relationship with Leila is entangled. He ended loving her secretly, helping to patch Raymond and Leila together and he is just satisfied seeing both of them happily together. This relationship made me feel so wasted. However, I recommended a BL MV<一直很安静> created also by Ah Kang.
<Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion> TVB 2006/01/05 released
Main Cast: Raymond Lam, Charmaine Seah, Sonijia Kwok, Bosco Wong, Sharon Chan, John Chiang, Derek Kwok
Bosco Wong as Hon Pak
This serial is one of the big productions in TVB for the year with huge casts, but unfortunately the serial is too long and draggy. Moreover, with the success in A Step Into The Past and Twin of Brothers, the air ratings for this serial is considered fairly low.
The whole serial is suspended with feelings of great constraints, fortunately there is Bosco. The scenes of Bosco and Sharon are the only lively aspect that supported me to finish the whole serial. Bosco acted well as both the torn and ragged slave and the armoured general. Commendable parts are the scenes of dilemma between the choice of helping his people or brothership, the love and hate feeling towards Fung Hung Lit. When Hon Pak first appeared, my heart followed to race.
After watching this serial, I felt that Bosco is getting more attention in TVB and heavily promoted, at least Louis Koo and Ron Ng depended on Wong Yik's show to get popular. This year, Bosco's serials are one after another, I hope in the near future he will stand on his own as the main male lead.
<Under The Canopy of Love> TVB 2006/02/20 released
Main Cast: Niki Chow, Kevin Cheng, Bosco Wong
Bosco Wong as Kuen Lik
Actually, I never expected this serial to have such high air ratings because I felt that the story plot is too common and this is also not a heavily produced serial. But I never expected Bosco's acting skills to be so superb in this serial, really surprised me! This time Bosco displayed his humorous talents to the fullest, definitely comparable with WOIL. Adorable is the word to describe Kuen Lik, his first appearance already gave us a big surprise. Moreover, in the later scenes, as long as there is Ah Lik, I cannot stop laughing uncontrollably.
TVB artists who have rich facial expressions are not a lot, after some thoughts, I suppose there are only Bobby and Bosco who can compete in this aspect.
<To Love With No Regrets> TVB 2004/05/24 released
Main Cast: Amy Kwok, Evergreen Mak, Bosco Wong, Annie Man, Wayne Lai
Bosco Wong as Luk Maan Dau Among Bosco’s so many serials, this is the only one where he had the funniest hairstyle! Just take a look at his picture below.
Picture created by my sister and me.
Though it's mostly done my sister and this picture is not very nice, afterall it's my first try... In this serial, Bosco had an outstanding performance acting as a rich spoiled kid (all due to the cause of his grandmother), being extremely immature and likes to play practical jokes on others. He even reached to the greatest extent of enraging his father to death!
To others, he definitely seems to be a pest, but as we watched on, we know that he is not evil at heart. He clearly understood how important the Soya Sauce factory meant to his father, so he decided to put down all his grudges against his enemy Evergreen Mak - his trusted teacher who tricked and betrayed him, causing him to lose his entire family business and landed him in poverty. With a forgiving heart, he insisted in helping Evergreen revive back the business without any intention of rewards in return even when the whole family opposed his idea.
In this serial, I see Maan Dau growing up and maturing through his setbacks, started as a spoilt child and ended up as the big boss managing several branches.
Talking about relationship, he treats his child bride very well and spares every thought for her. Though unwilling, he still divorced with her, hoping that Amy being single, will enable her lead a happy marriage life with Evergreen.
With Hoi Yee, he started playing tricks with her ‘forcing’ her to be his concubine, causing her to freak out her life. However, when Hoi Yee meets into trouble, he always helps her out of the difficult situation. Their pairing overall is cute and innocent.
I have heard before people commenting that the range of Bosco’s serial performance is very wide, with both comprising good and evil. However, Bosco still needs to work hard in creating an unforgettable image that will leave all the audience remember him forever. I hope TVB will give all these new male and female artists more opportunities as main leads for big serial productions. In this way, I believe they will experience and learn more, thereby maturing faster not only in terms of their acting skills, but also self development.
As a fan of Bosco, I will always support him and I have strong faith in him. I believe I will get to see him awarded with the Most Popular Male Lead one day!
Now, let us just look forward to his oncoming serials Au Revoir Shanghai, Devils Disciple, Thousand Lies Various Schemes and Casino Turbelent Times!
The above are just my personal opinions to share with all of you.Original Review Written by: dorophyk
