Teachers Complain About WOIL 2 Line “No Ambition, No Future” Degrades Profession

「野蠻奶奶」 (Barbaric Mother-in-Law) Liza Wang yelled at Myolie Wu in a row. This angered a group of dedicated educators. Last Friday (January 4), the episode of WOIL 2 contained a segment with Myolie saying that she applied to be a security guard, bank teller, kindergarten teacher, and etc. Liza pointed out that all of the jobs that Myolie listed were not ambitious and had no future. Yesterday, Mingpao received an e-mail from 「一群致力於學前教育的工作者」 (A group of pre-school education worker) that had a dissenting view with that segment’s dialogue.

In that e-mail, it described that TVB’s producer did not have evidence pointing out if a line of profession had a future or not. Also, joining which profession would mean if a person have or have no ambitions. There were audiences that thought they should not have degraded a profession for that scene. Those audiences also made complaints to the Broadcasting Board. Yesterday, WOIL 2 received two formal complaints about dialogue that degraded certain professions.

The reporter told Liza about the complaints about degrading kindergarten teacher. Liza said: “It’s that serious? The dialogue was to make people laugh! But, if people had opinions about it, they should express it.” The producer for the series, 張乾文, stressed that Liza’s dialogue was to reflect (coordinate with) her character in WOIL 2. It was not intending to hurt anyone or certain professions. He hopes that audience won’t have any misunderstandings about it. TVB’s Public Relation department assistant director made clear that TVB did not receive any formal complaints. Instead, they received 10 e-mail commending WOIL 2 and Liza’s acting abilities.

WOIL 2 had an average of 33 points with close to 2.08 million viewers that had 91% of the viewing audience. It peaked at 36 points with 2.26 million viewers. It is the highest viewed series produced recently. ATV’s 9 o’clock series 《霍元甲》 features Ekin Cheng. It is a hit in mainland China but made no impact in Hong Kong. The average rating was only 3 points with 190 000 viewers. Their premiere episode of 《十六不搭喜趣來》 only had 4 points.

Also, the 9 o’clock series SL 2 also experienced an increase in rating. It averaged 29 points. There were more complaints related to that series. The Broadcasting Broad received 9 formal complaints. The complaints had a bit of everything. The characters did not fit the lawyer’s professional image. The dialogue was crude and it was a bad influence on children.

people always have things to complain. the languages used in series, inappropriate name calling or labelling, and other "inappropriate" matters. these series should be watched with parental guidance. adults should know that these are for entertainment purposes only... and they are responsible for teaching their children what to learn and not to learn from them. besides, all comedies make fun of something. people just complain too much. <_<

I was reading about this earlier.. and I just feel that ppl are just taking these series way too seriously.. these series are for entertainment purposes and people watching them shouldn't take every little part and word of it so seriously.. especially if they are comedies.. for sure they'll make fun of something.. how else is it going to be a comedy.. if they're not making fun of something!? ==" ppl need to RELAX... and just watch series for pleasure.. and if you don't like what they say in the show.. change the channel or DON'T WATCH TV AT ALL!...
